SPEAK OUT!® and LOUD Crowd® for People with Parkinson’s
Many people with Parkinson’s disease develop difficulty communicating and swallowing. SPEAK OUT! and LOUD Crowd therapies target the muscles used for speaking and swallowing and can help postpone and prevent these PD-related declines.
Live Well at Leawood offers the SPEAK OUT! therapy regimen to help people with Parkinson’s disease improve their voicing and swallowing abilities. The SPEAK OUT! program involves the patient and speech therapist working together to complete speech, voice and cognitive exercises using a specialized workbook provided by the Parkinson Voice Project. SPEAK OUT! typically consists of 12 speech therapy sessions and daily home practice. SPEAK OUT! emphasizes speaking with intent and converts speech from an automatic function to an intentional act. Upon graduation from SPEAK OUT!, patients transition to The LOUD Crowd.
LOUD Crowd is the group therapy portion of the SPEAK OUT! program and meets regularly. The LOUD Crowd group sessions help maintain SPEAK OUT! skills and promote camaraderie among members.
The SPEAK OUT! & LOUD Crowd therapy regimens were developed at Parkinson Voice Project in Richardson, TX.
