Noticeable Improvements after Therapy Services

Ricky Webb admitted to us for rehab services after a significant decline in function due to Covid-19 sepsis. He had an extended and complicated hospital stay followed by an LTACH stay before admitting here. Prior to the onset of Covid-19, Ricky was working full-time and caring for his mother. Upon admission, Ricky could only walk five feet, attend to tasks for 10 minutes, and required maximum assistance with bathing, toileting, and dressing tasks. By the end of his stay, he was ambulating over 500 feet, able to use three stairs, attending to tasks for 30 minutes, and completing self-care tasks with modified independence. He was very motivated to participate in therapy and made great progress to prepare for his return to home!

I basically couldn’t walk when I got here. Ethan and Evan had a way of motivating me to push myself to get better without forcing me.

Rehab for Safe Return

Jackie Brewer admitted to the The Healthcare Resort of Leawood in July after a decline in function following a hospital stay. Jackie was very motivated to participate in daily physical, occupational, and speech therapy to prepare for a safe return to her ALF in Paola. Jackie improved her walking distance from 90 feet to 359 feet, her ability to stand to perform self-care and leisure tasks from 3 minutes to 10 minutes, and made many other functional gains. Jackie told us on the day she left that “I appreciate Alyssa going above and beyond in many life changing recommendations that have dramatically improved my core strength and ability to walk. It was a pleasure to work with Jackie. We are grateful for the opportunity to help her meet her goals!

My therapy was fun and challenging!

Urinary Incontinence Success

Our occupational therapists provide a urinary incontinence (UI) program at The Healthcare Resort of Leawood. It is a combination of exercises, education on diet and bladder training, and use of non- invasive electrical stimulation. One of our patients had this to say about the program:

I was going to the restroom four to five times per night. Now I only have to go once or twice. When I feel the urge to use the bathroom during the day, I can get where I need to go. I don’t have to worry about what pants I am wearing because now I always make it to the bathroom on time. I will definitely keep doing the exercises. They make such a difference!
